In my Georgia divorce case, what is a petition?

Return to FAQ Videos

Transcript:

A petition is what’s filed with the court asking that a divorce be granted. It’s pretty standard. You typically just allege your reason for divorce. A lot of times that’ll be irreconcilable differences, or whether that was any bad conduct of the other spouse. And then the other party will then file an answer in response to your petition, and your divorce will then proceed from there.
